Keep Calm and Change Your Blog

The very cool thing about growing and becoming wiser is...well...becoming wiser. The Internet has been a big part of my life, and I'm so glad that it has. I've met some amazing people here. A few of them I can honestly say have become very close friends, and I can't image my life now without them. It's been fun learning and growing, and taking part of exciting new ventures, and yeah, just wasting a lot of time goofing off and not doing actual work ;p

But, there's something in the air. I feel a shift happening with the Internet and the blogging communities. This year alone has been an emotional one for a lot of people. Me included.

Recently I read a post by Roni Loren where she shared the trail she went through when an artist sued her over an image she used on her blog. Unknowingly, she had violated a copyright, even though she is one of the most cautious people I know when it comes to these maters. She has disclaimers on her site and everything. And her post, along with a lot of other things happening in the blogosphere, got me thinking.

Times are changing. It's not all fun and games anymore. Many people make their living online. This is their livelyhood. It's mine, too. All or most of my book sales come from online sales. It saddens me so much when I find another pirated copy of one of my books =( So I do know how those artists feel.

And some really, really scary stuff has been going down, too. Websites gathering personal information to encourage stalking and...no. Just no. And scary. (I will not link to that site to give them any more traffic) I couldn't be more disgusted with what I've seen.

That being said, I've decided to be more cautious and careful with what I post. I've decided to back away from my laptop when my emotions are running high. Take some take out. Remember that it may not be that big of a deal tomorrow. I've done an overhaul of my blog, since now it's my domain name homesite, and I've removed images, personal information, family information, and anything else I don't want others to freely grab, and feel no longer pertains to the writer, professional Trisha Wolfe.

Please accept my apology now if I've ever blogged or Tweeted of Facebooked anything offensive to you. Know that I am only human, and that yes, I get upset sometimes, too. But that I am a rational human being who can change her mind and think things through clearly later on. I'm sorry if I've ever used an image that I didn't ask permission to use. I did so unknowingly, and I plan to ask for permission in the future, or simply use my own photos.

Also, you'll notice that I won't be posting as often. Truth is, there's just not enough time. And so many other, better blogs cover important topics much better than me LOL. And with blogs not getting enough love these days, I feel it's best left to them to dish. I'll still be posting about updates for books and such, as I feel that's what this site needs to be used for.

I really do hope that this sudden flux of craziness does not become the norm for the Internet or the blogging communities. I'm still happy and proud to be a part of YA Bound, and to share that love of blogging with my bloggy sisters there. And I still love the YA community, and believe we are fired up because we are passionate about what we love.

Peace, out...

  1. A rather somber post! But it's a good idea to blog less if it's fraught with peril and you'd really rather be writing or spending time with your family.

  2. When this page loaded, I thought I had screwed up and gone to the wrong site lol. It looks great Trisha!

I try to stay as far away from the drama as I can. Everyone feels the need to shout their own opinions and that's fine, but I just don't need to add mine to the mix. Besides negativity only begets more negativity. I don't need that, I need more positive.

I have to say that the good thing about being on YouTube for as long as I have been, you learn what's allowed and what's not allowed when it comes to copyright pretty quickly. So there isn't much that I have to remove on my blog. Except my "My Books" page. I'll have to redo that :-( Too bad, I'm really proud of some of those book banners.

    1. I only notice it when I'm on Twitter and that's rare now. With deadlines and everything, I just have to back away and refocus lol.

AW! Your banners are so good! But I can't wait to see what you work up to replace them! Thanks, Lindsay!

    2. I need to refocus myself. I have to somehow divide my attention between setting up house and writing, with a lil bit of youtube snuck in. Knowing me, this will be a challenge lol.

I know, my poor book banners! I've gone to that page several times today just to look at how pretty they are, because I know they must come down. So far what's going to replace them still looks good, but it's not quite as complicated or cool. More focus on the titles and maybe some images if I can find some royalty free. I'll email you once the page is done so you can see :)

  4. I hope the craziness will pass too. I've been careful about what I post picture-wise since I first heard about the issues about a year ago. The other craziness, wow, just wow. I'm glad you didn't link to them. Ugh, how horrible that anyone would do that.

And I totally understand about blogging less. Sometimes we have to take a step back and that's okay. :)

    1. Taking a step back is exactly what I'm doing, Heather. And it's good to take time off, too. Very needed =)

Good for you on the images! I really had no idea.

And yeah, seems even more drama has hit the fan. This new things is just blowing my mind. It's so scary. We all have to remember that their are underage people involved! The Internet blurs that, and we have to keep that in mind at all time.

      Thanks for the comment, girl!

  6. I love the new look for your site. I just changed mine too. I haven't been on twitter so I am not sure what it out there that you are refereing too, but I don't want any part of it. Thanks for the heads up.
